Young Child Rubbing Eyes During Emotional Moment

Is Your Child Acting Out at Home?

“What am I doing wrong?” We hear this question from parents all the time. Their child is in pediatric therapy and exhibits positive behaviors in sessions. But when they get home, old unwanted behaviors return. Parents try the strategies their child’s therapist recommended, but nothing seems to work.

This does not mean you’re doing anything wrong, and it doesn’t mean your child is falling behind. Your child may just be struggling to apply lessons learned in therapy elsewhere.

The TEACH Group is here to help.

Get Personalized,
At-Home Help from an Expert

Our founder, Dr. Sarah King, got started helping children in their own homes over 25 years ago and has worked with an estimated 2,500 children and families since. She knows that sometimes children struggle to connect the dots between pediatric therapy and daily life. That’s why she offers an at-home behavioral coaching program for kids and families.

Dr. Sarah will personally come to your home or meet you online to observe how you’re currently supporting your child and provide strategies your whole family can use to improve behavior. She’ll also show you how to track progress and recognize the small wins that make all the difference.

This is a monthly coaching program with one flat fee, not a per-visit charge. Call for program details and Dr. Sarah’s availability.

How Our At-Home Family Coaching Program Works

Child Development Consultation With Parents And Specialist

At-Home Consultation

After your child has been evaluated by one of our pediatric therapists, Dr. Sarah will contact you to schedule an at-home visit. This can be done in person or virtually. During this visit, Dr. Sarah will ask questions to learn about your child’s level of understanding, strengths, and challenges they are facing. She’ll also ask about the strategies you’re currently using to help your child.

Next, Dr. Sarah will observe your child’s behaviors and your response. Whenever possible, she schedules this visit for the times your family has the most trouble, so she can see what happens before and after a behavior. This shows Dr. Sarah what your child is struggling with and the family dynamics that may be affecting their responses.

From there, Dr. Sarah will recommend and demonstrate new strategies to help your child.

Expert-Backed Behavioral Strategy

Dr. Sarah King is a board-certified behavior analyst with a background in teaching and caring for children with special needs, which gives her the expertise to help children with behavioral challenges.

After the at-home consultation, Dr. Sarah will walk you through how to support your child in the weeks ahead. This includes how to respond to their behavior and which tools, like deep breathing, can encourage positive behavior. She also holds parent feedback sessions, so every strategy fits your parenting style and family culture.

When needed, she also works directly with your child to teach coping and calm-down strategies, emotional regulation, perspective-taking, and other adaptive skills. She uses video modeling, role play, cognitive picture rehearsals, and practice, and may also use behavioral skills training (instruction, modeling, rehearsal, and feedback) with your child, you, or both together.

Weekly Sessions

Sometimes, children need a little extra support to stop unwanted behaviors. This can mean trying new approaches to see what sticks. The good news is that you don’t have to figure this out alone.

As part of the program, Dr. Sarah provides weekly at-home coaching, in addition to any in-clinic services your child receives. Topics might include self-regulation, communication, potty training, and more. She’ll help you put strategies into practice throughout the week, review the data collected, and adjust the approach until challenging behaviors decrease.

This at-home family coaching program is a private-pay expense and is not covered by insurance. This allows Dr. Sarah to give your family the individualized time and attention these sessions require.

Check-Ins Throughout the Week

What if you can’t wait until your child’s next therapy appointment or weekly visit? We know that when unwanted behaviors happen, you want support sooner rather than later. That’s why you’ll get multiple check-ins throughout the week to see how your family is doing.

Instead of having to wait days for expert advice, you can tell Dr. Sarah what’s going on and get personalized strategies the same day. As behavior therapies are adjusted to fit your child, you will start to see growth over time.
